Won 44, Lost 38 (3rd, Midwest)...a repeat of the 1984-1985 record and fourth place playoff seed...club failed in its bid to become just the fourth team in NBA history to improve its record in five consecutive seasons...the Mavs eliminated Utah in the first round of the playoffs 3-1, then lost to the Lakers 4-2 in the conference semifinals...averaged 16,904 fans per game, second in the league to Detroit (16,957)...Dallas sold out 31 of 41 dates and filled Reunion Arena to 99.4 percent of its capacity - an NBA record for a building of Reunion's size...home record was 26-15, with seven losses coming against teams which finished the year with losing records...on November 25 Dallas traded Kurt Nimphius to the Los Angeles Clippers for 7'2 center James Donaldson...Donaldson's strength game the Mavericks a new dimension and he finished ninth in NBA rebounding (9.6) - the fist Maverick ever among rebound leaders...Dallas was 12-22 against teams which posted winning records and 3-12 against division winners...regular season highlight was March 10th's 116-115 home win over the Boston Celtics...that night, Dallas, playing without Mark Aguirre (ill) overcame 50 points from Larry Bird and a 13-point deficit in the last 5:37 for the first-ever win against the Celtics...Dallas averaged 115.5 ppg, second to the Lakers, but allowed 114.2 ppg - 21st in defense...the Mavericks averaged 15.7 turnovers, the fewest in the NBA for the fourth-straight year...for the second-straight year Dallas led the NBA in 3-pointers made and attempted going 141-of-446...Dallas was the only team to place to scorers in the league's top 15; Aguirre 12th (22.6) and Blackman 15th (21.5)...Mark Aguirre was suspended for two games on December 21 after refusing to play the second half of the December 19 win against the Atlanta Hawks...Rolando Blackman made his second-straight All-Star Game appearance, this time before the Reunion faithful...Brad Davis won his fifth-straight favorite Maverick award..opening game starters were Mark Aguirre, Sam Perkins, Wallace Bryant, Brad Davis and Rolando Blackman...final game starters were Aguirre, Bill Wennington, Donaldson, Dale Ellis and Derek Harper...most frequently used starting lineup was Aguirre, Perkins, Donaldson, Harper (who replaced Davis as a starter on January 22) and Blackman.
