DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki will represent the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game, the league announced tonight. Nowitzki will appear in his 13th career All-Star Game, more than any other player in franchise history.
In 51 games this season, Nowitzki is averaging 18.3 points along with 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 29.8 minutes per contest. The Wurzburg, Germany native is shooting .467 from the field, .360 from behind-the-arc and .889 from the free throw line.
Nowitzki's 13th All-Star appearance was announced by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver as a replacement for injured New Orleans Pelican Anthony Davis.
"It is always an honor to represent the Mavericks at the All-Star Game," Nowitzki said. "This year it threw a little bi of a wrench into my plans but I'm very excited. Even though it was unexpected I am looking forward to being a part of the festivities in New York."
The Dallas forward will be appearing in the All-Star Game for the 13th time in the last 14 years. Nowitzki had a run of 11 consecutive All-Star appearances before that streak came to and end in 2013 after he missed the first 27 games of the season recovering from surgery to his right knee. He learned the honor last season and represented the Mavericks at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
The 2015 NBA All-Star Game will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, February 15, 2014. It will air live at 7:00PM CT on TNT.
