Jae Crowder (born July 6, 1990 in Villa Rica, Georgia) was obtained by the Dallas Mavericks in a 2012 draft-night trade, along with Jared Cunningham and Bernard James in exchange for Kelenna Azubuike and the draft rights to Tyler Zeller, from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Crowder began his college career as a freshman at South Georgia Tech Junior College. He was named the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association Player of the Year while leading the school to their first-ever NJCAA National Tournament Appearance.

The next season he transferred to Howard College helping the school to it's first national title in men's basketball. Crowder was named NJCAA Player of the Year and was a First Team All-America selection at the Junior College level.

For his final two collegiate seasons, the 6'6 forward moved on to Marquette where, as a junior, he led the team in rebounds, was second in scoring and third in steals. In his senior season he again topped Marquette's statistical categories finishing first in rebounds and steals, second in scoring and fourth in assists. He earned Big East Player of the Year honors as a senior and was named Second Team All-American by the Associated Press. He was one of the 15 finalists for the John Wooden Award and became the 44th player in school history to reach 1000 points and only the fifth to accomplish it in only two seasons.

In the 2012 NBA Draft, Crowder was selected in the second round by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Later that night he was traded along with two other Cavs draft picks, first rounder Jared Cunningham and another second rounder Bernard James in return for Dallas' first round pick that night, Tyler Zeller, and veteran Kelena Azubuike.

Crowder saw more action than any of the Mavs' other rookies in 2012-2013.

As Head Coach Rick Carlisle's confidence in the young forward grew, so did his playing time. In 2013-2014, Crowder saw action in 78 regular season games averaging 4.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in 16.1 minutes.

The next season, on December 18, 2014, Crowder was traded along with Jameer Nelson, Brandan Wright, a 2015 first round pick and a 2016 second round draft pick for guard Rajon Rondo and center Dwight Powell. At the time of the trade, Crowder had appeared in 25 of the Mavs' games and was averaging 3.6 points and 1.2 rebounds,
