JASON KIDD NAMED TO 10TH ALL-STAR GAME

DALLAS - Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd will represent the Western Conference as a reserve in the 59th NBA All-Star Game, the league announced tonight. The 16-year veteran has been named as a starter five times and as a reserve five times. In 2006-2007, he was selected by the coaches but did not play due to a lower back strain. This is his second Mavericks appearance in an All-Star Game (also 1996 in San Antonio).

"With all the great players in our league, I am honored the NBA selected me to play in the All-Star Game," said Kidd. "It is particularly special to play with my teammate Dirk Nowitzki in front of thousands of Mavericks fans."

This marks the sixth time in Mavericks history the team has boasted multiple All-Stars (2007: Dirk Nowitzki and Josh Howard, 2003: Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash, 2002: Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash, 1988: James Donaldson and Mark Aguirre and 1987: Rolando Blackman and Mark Aguirre).

In 51 games, Kidd is averaging 9.3 points and a team-high 9.3 assists to go along with 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 36.0 minutes. He ranks fifth in the NBA in assists, eighth in steals and 32nd in double-doubles.

The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is set to host the NBA's All-Star festivities for the first time since 1986. The 59th All-Star Game will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on February 14, 2010 at 7:00 PM CT. The T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and the All-Star Saturday Night will be hosted at the American Airlines Center.
