This Day In Mavericks History

  • 1994 Fired head coach Quinn Buckner. Buckner was hired March 4, 1993 and coached the 93-94 season. He finished with a regular season record of 13-69 (.159) (no playoffs) with Dallas.
  • 2001 In the first round of the playoffs, Dallas defeated Utah 84-83 to take the series 3-2 and advance to the second round. It was only the 13th time in league history that a team that was down 0-2 came back and won the series (7th time as a best-of-5 series).
  • 2004 The NBA fined Dallas $25,000 for showing a cartoon that made fun of several Sacramento players prior to the Dallas-Sacramento game on 4/24/04.
  • 2006 The NBA fined Dirk Nowitzki $15,000 and assessed him a flagrant foul level 2 for throwing an elbow at the chest of Pau Gasol during the 5/1/06 Game 4 at Memphis.
  • 2007 The NBA fined Jason Richardson (Golden State) $35,000 for contact with a fan late in the 5/1/07 game in Dallas.
  • 2007 In the first round of the playoffs, Golden State defeated Dallas 111-86 to take the series 4-2 and eliminate Dallas from the playoffs. It was the 3rd time in NBA history that a #8 seed defeated a #1 seed.
