NOWITZKI NAMED WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
DALLAS—Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played between Dec. 1-7. Nowitzki earns the honor for the second time in three weeks and for the 10th time in his career.
Nowitzki and the Mavericks started a season-long seven-game home stand with a 3-0 record (wins over L.A. Clippers, Phoenix and Atlanta) to extend their current win steak to four games. Nowitzki averaged a double-double during that stretch with 30.7 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 52.2% from the field, 44.4% from 3-point range and 100% (16-16 FTs) from the free throw line.
In the Mavericks 112-97 win over Phoenix on Thursday, Nowitzki scored a season-high tying 39 points, matching his overtime effort at New York (11/16). He hit a career-high 17 field goals on just 25 attempts.
Nowitzki ranks fourth in the NBA in scoring (25.0 ppg), 17th in rebounding (9.0 rpg) and tied for fifth in free throw percentage (.922). He leads the Mavericks in scoring, rebounding, double-doubles (8) and minutes (37.1 mpg).
