MAVERICKS ACQUIRE CARROLL AND HOLLINS; TRADE DIOP
DALLAS— The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they acquired guard Matt Carroll and center Ryan Hollins from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for center DeSagana Diop.
“We are excited to add two young talents in Matt and Ryan to our roster,” said General Manager/President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson. “Over the course of his career, Matt Carroll has one of the best 3-point shooters in the league. Ryan is a versatile athletic center with a good up-side.”
“We want to thank Sagana,” said Nelson. “He is hands down one of the classiest people I have ever known. His contributions both on and off the court will certainly be missed. The Mavericks’ family wishes him nothing but the very best.”
Carroll (6-6, 212) has played for three teams (Portland, San Antonio and Charlotte) in his five-year career. Overall, he has career averages of 8.4 points shooting 40.3% from 3-point range, 2.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 305 games.
Hollins (7-0, 230) was the 50th overall selection by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2006 NBA Draft from UCLA. In his third season, he is averaging career-highs of 3.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 18 games with one start.
Diop (7-0, 280) was originally signed as a free agent by Dallas on Aug. 19, 2005. He played two and a half seasons with the Mavericks before he was traded to the New Jersey Nets along with Devin Harris, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager and Keith Van Horn and two first round draft picks in exchange for Jason Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright on Feb. 19, 08.
