Tyson Chandler on joining the Mavericks
New Mavericks center Tyson Chandler met the Dallas media on July 15 and answered questions on becoming a Mav.
ON THE TRADE:
"It has been great. I am very excited about it. When I heard about the trade, I was excited. I was working out and started jumping around. I am definitely excited about being here and am ready to get to work."
ON BEING HEALTHY:
"This is the first summer in awhile where I have been healthy. I have been training since two weeks after the season ended and I have been getting better and better. I am feeling good."
ON BEING THE BACKUP TO BRENDAN HAYWOOD
"I am fine with that. I think we have the same goal in mind. We all want to bring a championship here. So in order to do that we have to work together and whatever my role is, that is what I'm going to do."
ON WHAT HE BRINGS TO THE MAVS
"I bring athleticism. I am healthy now and feeling great. I have been running in the guy and running the floor. I feel like I can definitely speed the pace up for us as well as be an anchor defensively for us."
ON GETTING A NEW DEAL
"Well obviously everyone knows the business part. I try to focus on what I have in front of me. And what I have in front of me is an incredible situation and a great opportunity to try and take this team to the next level with these other guys. I am just looking forward to coming in and having a great year."
ON PLAYING WITH JASON KIDD
"I was really excited about that. I know he loves to reward his bigs. I was messing around with my cousin and telling him I was going to get a rebound and get the ball and run as fast as I can. I am looking forward to it."
ON BEING A PART OF TEAM USA
"It is good because I have been doing a lot of training and have been in the guy kind of by myself, though with my trainers, running up and down, shooting and working on post moves. So it will be good to get some competition. A couple of years ago when I did (play with Team USA), it was one of the most exciting moments of my carer just to be out there with those guys and compete everyday in practice. It will be good because it will be some of the best of the best out there. It's an incredible opportunity. Whenever you can tell your kids that you played for the USA Team, it is a wonderful achievement."
